Not too long ago, a couple called the shop with a straightforward inquiry. They wanted to know if they should use vinyl or paint their brand on their soon-to-be-made awning. We frequently receive this question, and to be honest, there isn’t a single response that works for everyone.
Painted graphics appeal to certain owners because of their vintage appearance. They can be found in long-standing neighborhood stores and eateries. Rather than being an afterthought, the logo nearly seems to be a part of the awning. Because they take longer to complete, they typically cost a little more, but many believe the final appearance is well worth the investment.
Vinyl graphics are different. They make sense when someone wants to keep costs down or thinks the business name might change in a few years. If a logo gets updated, replacing vinyl is usually easier than repainting an entire awning. We’ve installed plenty of vinyl graphics that still look great years later. Like anything that spends every day outside, though, the sun eventually wins. After enough summers, colors can fade and edges may start to show their age.
We always advise clients not to make decisions only based on cost. Consider how long you want to stay in the building, the style you want, and the level of upkeep you can tolerate. We’ve put vinyl and painted graphics throughout Connecticut, and we’ve seen how well they all function. Contact New Haven Awning if you’re unsure about where to go. We won’t try to sell you something you don’t need; instead, we’ll provide you with actual instances and assist you in making your decision.
