By now everyone is aware that awnings can provide shade for homes and businesses alike. But record hot temperatures, rising energy costs and a much tighter household budget is helping to reveal the impact awnings and solar shades can have in our never ending search to help reduce our energy expenses.
A study funded by The Professional Awning Manufacturers Association (PAMA) shows that New England homeowners can save up to 61% on their cooling costs by installing awnings on their home. The study was conducted in 50 cities across the United States
Awnings reduce your cooling costs by blocking the suns rays which in turn keeps your home cooler and puts less stress on your air conditioning units.
“The sun’s rays through glass are responsible for almost 20% of the load on your air conditioner,” says Michelle Sahlin, Managing Director of PAMA. “Awnings reduce direct solar gain through windows.”
