These Great Fabrics Can Help Reduce Your Risk In Getting Skin Cancer.

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, just because it feels cool outside, that doesn’t mean UV rays aren’t reaching the ground and more importantly your skin. In fact, even on cloudy days, UV rays are still coming though. So if you’re outside at an event or party, remember to try to keep yourself well shaded! Sunbrella performance fabrics have been awarded the Seal of Recommendation by the Skin Cancer Foundation, an international organization committed to the education and prevention of skin cancer, the world’s most common cancer. Understanding the SPF or sun protection factor of your shade canopy fabrics will aid you in making informed decisions for your shaded outdoor living area and the overall protection of your skin. Sunbrella is not the only fabric with a high UV rating. New Haven Awning is also proud to carry Tempotest, Weblon Coastline and Firesist. Answers To Some Questions About Retractable Awnings.

Answers To Some Questions About Retractable Awnings.

What is a Retractable Awning? A lateral arm or retractable awning uses spring-loaded arms to provide tension to the fabric as it rolls from the drive tube. The retractable awning is unique in that it may be extended as needed and only as far as needed offering unlimited utility. Is A Retractable Awning Right For My Property? Retractable awnings are a great option for any homeowner or business looking to improve the aesthetics and usability of their outdoor space. For homeowners, awnings can increase a home’s value as well as provide needed shade during the summer months. Businesses can benefit from these awnings because they create more outdoor seating for customers as well as raising the storefront’s curb appeal. Why Buy a Retractable Awning? A retractable awning offers the ultimate in versatility. About 40 percent of the unwanted heat that builds up in your house comes in through windows. Although both exterior and interior shades can control this heat gain, exterior shades — items such as awnings, louvers, shutters, rolling shutters and solar screens — are more far effective, since they block sunlight before it enters the windows and doors. You can adjust the tilt of the awning up to 45 degrees from the straight out position. You can extend the awning as little or as much as you like. Will I Save Money On Cooling Costs? A properly installed awning can reduce heat gain in your home up to 65 percent on southern windows and as much as 77 percent on eastern and western windows. We have awnings on our home now because it was impossible for our air conditioner to keep up with cooling the westerly rooms. We now have cool rooms and a happy AC unit since my awning was installed, not to mention eliminating the fading issue with the furniture and paintings.  You can read more about saving on cooling costs here. How Do I Operate My Retractable Awning? The most popular system is a manual operator using a simple removable hand brace. This system may be installed inside the home if needed or outside at either end of the awning. The installation of a tubular motor provides the maximum utility for a retractable awning. The motorization of your awning provides the additional option of a sun and wind sensor that automatically operates your awning as you program it. Imagine the awning senses the sun and out it goes to provide the shade you desire. The sun goes down and your awning automatically retracts safely waiting for the next time the sun comes...

Get That Awning Ready For The Summer!

Get That Awning Ready For The Summer!

After the up-and-down winter we’ve just had. I’m sure we are all ready to do some relaxing in the sun.  Before we start enjoying our awning there are a few things we need to do to make sure our investments lasts for the years to come.  We are going to assume you followed the steps we listed in our post about how to winterize your fabric awnings and get right into the steps we should take this spring. A good amount of the stuff we should do are the same steps we took in the fall only because we winterized our residential or commercial awning correctly this should take less than half the time. Extend your retractable awning completely if you are working on a fixed fabric awning lay out the fabric on an area free of debris and dirt. Remove any dirt or debris from the awning that might of collected during the winter months. Make sure to start from the top edge of the awning and work your way down toward the bottom edge. Inspect the fabric for any discolorations or stains. Pay close attention to any areas that may be susceptible to build up. Hose off the awning to remove dirt that is stuck. You can use a soft-bristled brush to get out stains or dirt spots. In a bucket Mix a small amount of mild dish soap in warm water to eliminate stubborn stains. Scrub the awning in a back and forth motion. Be sure to keep the brush damp and rinse frequently to avoid spreading the dirt around. Rinse the awning thoroughly with the hose. If your awning has a hanging valance remove it. Clean the valance by hosing it down and scrub it with mild soap and a soft-bristled brush you used in step 3. Fully open your retractable awning and listen for any squeaky noises, if you hear any a gentle lubricant on all the hinges should clear it up. Be sure not to get any of the lubricant on the fabric   Learn More About Awning Cleaning & Maintenance...

Stamford Building Just Got A Box Awning With A Surprise Inside!

Stamford Building Just Got A Box Awning With A Surprise Inside!

The New Haven Awning installation crew visited a newly renovated building in Stamford, Connecticut to install a great looking box awning. From the outside this may look like an ordinary box awning, but if you look closer you can see that there is a shed awning inside! Why you ask? Box awnings are terrific designs because of their straight lines and great advertising space, but they do have a downfall… They are flat on top or for this reason they are sometimes designed topless. By adding a shed awning to the inside we kept the appeal of the box awning and added the all weather protection of a shed awning. The awning fabric we used is Serge Ferrari Précontraint 502 vinyl. The 502 vinyl is a high-performance awning fabric that aids in structural stability as well as offering in a great variety of colors, this awning fabric gives a designer look and feel. It also provides UV resistance and protection from the heat and weather to make sure this awning will last for years.   Have a project that needs the NH Awning Touch? Contact Us Today For A Free...

Darbar India Gets Their Awnings Recovered.

Darbar India Gets Their Awnings Recovered.

The NH Awning crew was at The Darbar India Restaurant in Branford, CT last week to do another great awning recover. I really like the way the gold painted graphics pop off that Sunbrella fabric. Not only does this awning look great but it also helps potential customers find this great restaurant as they are walking down the street. New Haven awning design and fabricates all of our awnings in house so there is no need to special order a frame just because it requires some custom fabrication. For instance this awning frame is a combination of the half barrel style for the entrance combined with a quarter barrel frame for the windows. Do you have an awning that needs a touch up?
